UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCES: DREAM EXCURSIONS ON THE ISLAND OF ELBA!

Dream itineraries departing from Bagnaia

From Bagnaia, in the Gulf of Portoferraio, two main routes allow you to discover the Island of Elba by sea: one heading east, through black-sand beaches and rugged headlands, and the other heading west, along the northern coast, with its white-pebble coves and crystal-clear turquoise waters. All the destinations described can also be reached with our dinghies that do not require a boating licence (40 HP engine), within the one-nautical-mile limit established by the onboard safety equipment regulations. For longer trips, more powerful dinghies requiring a boating licence are also available.

Eastbound itinerary

From our mooring field, heading east, after 8.5 km (4.6 nautical miles) you will reach Capo Vite, a headland on the island’s north-eastern coast that marks the transition between the Gulf of Portoferraio and Elba’s eastern shoreline.

Spiaggia e laghetto di Terranera con lago solforoso color smeraldo, Isola d'Elba

Cala Seregola and Topinetti

Just beyond Capo Vite lie the beaches of Cala Seregola and Topinetti, famous for their dark, shimmering sand—a unique colour created by the iron-rich minerals in the soil, a legacy of Elba’s mining history. They are located about 14 km (7.5 nautical miles) from Bagnaia.

Terranera

Further south, about 23 km (12.5 nautical miles) from Bagnaia, lies Terranera Beach. Behind the beach is a small emerald-green sulphur lake, separated from the sea by a narrow strip of pebbles. An unusual and highly photogenic landscape, and one of the island’s most distinctive spots.

Westbound itinerary

Heading west along the northern coast, you enter the area of Elba’s famous white-pebble beaches—a succession of secluded coves with turquoise seabeds and crystal-clear water.

Capo Enfola

Le Ghiaie, Padulella, Capo Bianco

These three beaches are located just a few minutes from the port of Portoferraio. Le Ghiaie is known for its smooth white and grey pebbles; Padulella is famous for its brilliant white beach and turquoise water; Capo Bianco is dominated by striking white cliffs that reflect the sunlight onto the sea.

Sottobomba, Seccione, La Sorgente, Sansone

Four beautiful coves located close to one another. Sansone is the best known, with its white pebbles and deep cobalt-blue water.

Enfola and the Tuscan Archipelago National Park

Enfola is a beach stretching from the mainland to the headland of the same name, offering sea views on both sides. The area is also known as the filming location for the 1957 movie Fire Down Below, directed by Terence Young and starring Anthony Quinn and Rita Hayworth. It is also home to the headquarters of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, housed in Elba’s historic tuna fishery.

How far can you go with a dinghy without a boating licence?

Our boats equipped with engines of up to 40 HP are fitted with the required safety equipment for navigation within one nautical mile of the coast (1,850 m). This is the legal limit for this type of boat and its onboard safety equipment. This means you can comfortably explore the entire northern coast of the Island of Elba—from Capo Vite to Capo Sant’Andrea—stopping wherever you like. For longer trips, such as to the smaller islands (Capraia and Pianosa), you will need one of our more powerful boats that require a boating licence.

A DAY AT SEA

Tips for a perfect day on the water

  • Set off early: during the high season, the most popular coves (such as Sansone and Padulella) become crowded after 11:00 am. Leaving at 9:00 am means you’ll still find them quiet.
  • Bring plenty of water and sunscreen: the sun feels much stronger out at sea.
  • Pack a picnic: ask our staff for the best places to anchor and enjoy lunch in a secluded cove.
  • Don’t forget a hat and sunglasses: we also recommend bringing dry clothes and a light sweatshirt for the return trip.
  • Check the weather forecast before departure: in case of bad weather, your booking can be rescheduled or refunded.
