Here you’ll find answers to the questions we’re most often asked before and after renting a dinghy or motor boat from Rent Boat Bagnaia. If you can’t find the information you’re looking for, send us a message on WhatsApp or visit our contact page.

Documents, boating licence and minimum age

What do I need to rent a dinghy or boat on the Island of Elba?

To rent a boat from Rent Boat Bagnaia, you must:

  • be at least 18 years old;
  • present a valid identity document;
  • for boats with engines over 40 HP, present a valid boating licence;
  • pay the required security deposit.

No. Boats with engines of up to 40 HP do not require a boating licence and can be operated by anyone who is at least 18 years old and has a valid identity document.

For our boats with engines over 40 HP (Predator 650, Stingher 22 Diablo and Stingher 27 GT), a boating licence valid for navigation within 12 nautical miles (powerboats) is sufficient.

Yes. A valid identity document for international travel (EU identity card or passport) is sufficient. For boats requiring a boating licence, we accept equivalent boating licences issued by EU countries as well as the International Certificate of Competence (ICC).

Prices, payment and security deposit

How much is the security deposit?
  • €300 for boats with engines up to 40 HP;
  • €500 for boats with engines over 40 HP.

In both cases, the security deposit can be paid in cash or by credit card. It is refunded in full upon your return, after the boat has been inspected.

We accept cash and credit cards. Payment for both the rental and the security deposit must be made before departure.

Yes. Discounts are available for multi-day rentals during the green and yellow seasonal rate periods. Please ask for details when making your booking.

Fuel and fuel consumption

Is fuel included in the rental price?

No. All boats are delivered with a full tank and must be returned with a full tank. Fuel costs are the responsibility of the customer.

You can refuel at the Portoferraio harbour fuel station or upon your return at our pontoon. Our staff will provide you with all the necessary instructions.

Insurance and damage

What happens if the boat is damaged?

In the event of damage, the customer is responsible for the repair costs, up to the amount covered by the security deposit or the optional Kasko insurance, if purchased.

Yes. We offer optional Kasko insurance for an additional €15, which covers:

  • damage up to €300 for boats with engines up to 40 HP;
  • damage up to €500 for boats with engines over 40 HP.

Before setting off, we recommend inspecting the boat and taking photos of its condition, paying particular attention to:

  • the propeller;
  • the outboard skeg;
  • the engine cowling (front engine cover);
  • the windscreen, console and seat cushions;
  • the boarding ladder, stern and bow.

Bad weather, cancellations and date changes

Will I receive a refund in case of bad weather?

Yes. In the event of unsafe weather conditions (weather warnings or restrictions issued by the Harbour Master’s Office), you can choose between:

  • a full refund of the amount paid;
  • rescheduling your rental free of charge to another available date.

Pets on board and accessories

Are pets allowed on board?

Yes. Small and medium-sized pets are welcome in limited numbers (for example, one or two dogs). Whenever possible, we recommend choosing a motor boat rather than a dinghy, to help preserve the condition of the hull.
